Pilot year
The academic year of ’08-’09 was the pilot year for the Joint Master with 5-7 students per conservatoire. During this year parts of the programme have been tested. The following four compulsory modules, including teacher exchange, was piloted:
1. Action Research (AR): a focus on the application of research skills, as well as research methodology and literature.
2. Leading and Guiding (L&G): an introduction to the skills and knowledge necessary to be a competent workshop/laboratory practitioner and creative leader.
3. Performance and Communication (P&C): intensive encounters with examples of best practice in respect of innovative performance practice in a variety of contexts.
4. Project Management and Entrepreneurship (PME): the conceiving, implementing and realising of project/business ideas.

Mentoring and the testing of the IT-environment was also part of these courses. Some institutions have also tested a range of optional modules. For an overview of these optionals see the development website of the Joint Music Master.

The students that take part in the pilot year will receive a certificate, stating which modules have successfully been taken. Whether or not credits can be awarded in order to earn a master’s degree when students continue the Master programme after the pilot year, will be looked at in a later phase.
